Day 1: Green Point to Bo Kaap
A Cape Town walking tour starting at the Mouille Point Lighthouse. From here we move through the Greenpoint Park (Formerly the Greenpoint Common). As we make our way to the V&A Waterfront via Fort Wynyard, The Somerset Hospital and The Moorings we are reminded of the history and events that shaped this city. The wharf is especially pedestrian friendly which allows you to peek around each and every corner discovering all the hidden treasures. A foot bridge takes us across the water to The Clock Tower and on towards The Silo District where you are met with contemporary architecture and galleries. Next up is The Canal District where we follow the water course to reach The Cape Town International Convention Centre and The Foreshore. Here we venture back in time and up Heerengracht/Adderley Street. A viewing of The Fountains and statues before we head to Thibault Square and St Georges Mall. This pedestrian street is home to shops, informal traders, jewelers and restaurants which brings us to Greenmarket Square. Continuing on through The Company Gardens and on to Long Street where we can see the Dutch influence on the architecture. Some refer to this stretch as ‘Little Amsterdam’. A short climb awaits as we leave the CBD and head toward Bo-Kaap (Upper Cape). Here we can see Cape Malay heritage and its influence on culture whilst moving along the streets of colourful houses. The end to this tour is down the road at De Waterkant.
